Ice Spice, Deli: the Lyrics & Their Meaning

“Deli” lyrics begin with Ice Spice setting the tone for the rest of the song. The recurring phrase “Grrah, grrah, grrah” emphasizes her assertiveness, demanding attention from the start. In the chorus, she highlights a woman’s bold expression of her sensuality, proclaiming herself as a “baddie” and unapologetically showing her prowess. With the pronoun “she,” Ice Spice emphasizes the importance of women embracing their romantic side on their own terms.

In the first verse, she challenges conventional norms by taking control of her desires and relationships. The line “Call me that bee while he eatin’ my honey” subverts the traditional gender roles by flipping the script and empowering herself in intimate situations.

By asserting her financial independence with lines like “You know n…s like b…es with money” and “If you ain’t cookin’ then get off the pot,” she defies the expectation that women should solely rely on men for financial support.

The second verse continues the theme of empowerment, where Ice Spice confidently embraces her individuality. She appreciates diverse beauty, mentioning her love for “white b…es” and expressing admiration for their uniqueness. Through her lyrics, Ice Spice demonstrates the importance of self-expression and self-love, regardless of societal expectations.

Ice Spice celebrates the unity among women in her song, referring to her friends as “baddies.” This camaraderie represents a powerful message of female solidarity and support. She recognizes that when women uplift and support one another, they become an unstoppable force.

“Deli” not only embodies themes of empowerment and self-confidence but also employs a clever play on words. The chorus line “But I’m still shakin’ a… in the deli” might be interpreted as a double entendre. On one hand, it celebrates her pride in her body and romantic side. On the other hand, it could be a metaphor for her unshakable confidence in any situation, just as a deli remains steadfast despite the constant movement and commotion.

“Deli” stands as a testament to her unapologetic self-expression and empowerment. It is not just a song; it’s a celebration of self and an anthem for women everywhere. As Ice Spice serves up her new single, audiences eagerly await the full release, anticipating more of her bold and unyielding attitude. With “Deli,” she leaves a lasting mark on the music industry, inspiring her fans to be fearless and authentic in a world that often tries to define them.

Interesting that you leave out the reference to promoting f…l use. People we love are dying by trying this Dangerously FATAL d…g. Either that or they are likely addicted and lives are ruined in either scenario. From one artist with young children who listen to Ice Spice and think she’s cool, to another: you have a platform that you can choose to use any way you like… but why— WHY?!— would one ever promote the use of a d…g that is killing our youth, our friends and loved ones?!?! This is absolutely irresponsible, and maddening. I’m all for free speech but this one hurts. With respect, I would like to petition for Ice Spice to retract and rewrite these lyrics, for the younger generation to flourish and not die off from this fatal d…g epidemic. F…Y IS NOT COOL. It’s deadly and the kids look up to you to teach them what is cool. Please think about our children.
