Coming this far with “Halo” fame, Beyonce has always been standing up for the rights of people of color. She has been an open supporter of the LGBT community as well. She then goes forward to pointing out her own ancestry, childhood home, feminity as well as the color of her own skin.

BLACK PARADE Lyrics Meaning

Let’s dissect the meaning behind the lyrics of the song “BLACK PARADE” by Beyonce section-wise.

“BLACK PARADE” is a surprise track released by Beyonce for Juneteenth in coincidence with a recent endeavor of bringing out and promoting every black-owned business.

[Intro/ Chorus/ Bridge]

Beyonce sprinkles the shade of optimism to her listeners in these sections. She tells us that we can come around from any situation and become a successful person. Since she has been able to take the spot of “queen”, she wants to lead her listeners towards the path of success. Then, she asks us to follow her lead. The artist is proud of her ancestry and history. She is proud of her success (presented as drips). Most importantly, she is proud of the fact that she could be successful in her own motherland.

[Verse 1]

In the first verse of the song, Beyonce acknowledges her southern heritage, likely referring to Texas. She says she is proud to have been a part of the dry place with not much water to live off of. However, her roots aren’t watered down and fixed by her ancestors so she can fly towards the path of success. However, the singer affirms that she will never forget where she has come from and what her ancestors did for her to be able to become as successful as she currently is.

[Verse 2]

Further in the song, the singer shows that she is proud of her black heritage and black culture. Her favorite color is black and everything she wears or rides is black. She doesn’t feel shy to flash on the black color everywhere she goes. Then, the lyrics enter into darker territory. She highlights the Black Lives Matter movement ignited by the death of George Floyd. There are references to the rubber bullets being shot at protestors, targeting people of color.

Juneteenth Meaning

Juneteenth is a holiday in the USA to celebrate the liberation of enslaved people of color. The holiday was first celebrated in Texas (where Beyonce is primarily from). Therefore, the singer feels as though it is responsible for her to acknowledge what her ancestors did for her to escalate to the height of success. BLACK PARADE in this sense could represent a march that led the USA towards the freedom of black men and women. Juneteenth is celebrated on the 19th of June every year.

Conclusion: BLACK PARADE Meaning

“BLACK PARADE” is basically urging minorities and people of color to follow the lead of Beyonce to understand the path to achieving success. The lyrics of the song tell us to be proud of who we are.
