Snow On Tha Bluff Lyrics Meaning

Let’s dissect the meaning behind the lyrics of the song “Snow On Tha Bluff” by J. Cole section-wise.

The meaning behind the lyrics of “Snow On Tha Bluff” by J. Cole is despite us wanting to throw away the evil of active racism, it’s not as easy as tweeting in the support of Black Lives Matter.

Since there is a single verse in the song, I have divided the song into multiple parts.

Part I

The rapper J. Cole lashes on the attention he gets as a “deep thinker” from his music in the song “Snow On Tha Bluff”. He believes that there is someone else out there who has a better IQ and a better understanding of the topic he sings about. Then, he uses a personification of “She” to refer to the rapper Noname. The lyrics of the song mention the anger at the Capitalists, Police Officers, and Celebrities, which are openly discussed by Noname on her Twitter handle.

Noname has thrown extremely severe criticism of affluent black men fiddling into white supremacy. After reading a few tweets from her, as the rapper mentions in the song, he felt as though she could have been communicating indirectly to him. This was so obvious primarily after she brought about a considerable number of tweets pertaining to conscious black artists avoiding the topic of racism. This could have hit home to Cole’s heart as he is touted as a “conscious rapper” along with the likes of Kendrick Lamar.

Part II

The lyrics in “Snow On Tha Bluff” progresses with him admitting that he is not big enough to avoid getting criticisms. However, he is not yet ready to digest the fact that Noname may have been born in a prosperous household. She might have gotten a proper headstart in her career because of her socially aware parental background. He doesn’t settle well with “queen tone” trying to bash rappers like him when Noname herself isn’t doing anything more than tweeting all day long.

Further, into the song, J. Cole feels like this is not the right moment to bring other people down. Instead of calling out the rappers like him, he believes Noname should instead be focused on tutoring unaware people about the things going on in the world at the moment. Criticisms only create a state of confusion when the target audience is socially unaware of the political standing of the citizens of the United States of America.

Part III

Then, in the third part of the song, the rapper says, she shouldn’t be wasting her time by tweeting about the rappers like him. He doesn’t see a point of complaining about police brutality, capitalists, and celebrities when people have no idea how they are being affected. A tweet is not going to fix anything whatsoever. It is a way of getting away with actual activism while acting empathetic to garner more attention from the public. He understands that a tweet is only going to reach people who already know about her.

However, towards the end of the verse, J. Cole says he feels as fake as the “Snow On Tha Bluff” for saying all these. He admits that he is feeling this way primarily because of the fact that he knows he hasn’t been doing enough to help the situation. The rapper feels as though he is not responding to other critics. He is instead responding to his inner critic who is telling him that he should be doing more. Attending a walk isn’t enough. He has a large platform that can be used for a better purpose.

[Bridge/ Outro]

In the Bridge and Outro sections of the song, the rapper tries to reunite his as well as Noname’s opinions on the same subject matter. He understands that this is a problem of everyone living in the USA as a colored person. Instead of persisting to be petty about the fact that he received some criticisms, he is accepting it. Now, he is encouraging people that despite having two different opinions, people can still be united and walk towards the goal of a better future. The song really promotes unity and harmony.

Conclusion: Snow On Tha Bluff Meaning

The meaning of “Snow On Tha Bluff” is instead of bashing each other down for short-lived attention online, people should focus on raising awareness amongst people that don’t know what is going on with unity and peace.
