Post Malone – Better Now Lyrics Review

The Lyrics Review for ‘Better Now’ by Post Malone is probably going to be a little complicated one. Post Malone is an American rapper and singer who got his stardom and fame from SoundCloud and YouTube. Thanks to his best single till the day, White Iverson. Better Now got its hype from big artists like Taylor Swift and from the music reviewers.

Introduction

‘Better Now’ is a track where Post Malone reminisces about his past relationship. The lyrics make us see the scenario as a forced breakup, especially because both Post Malone and his lover had affections for each other when they decided to break up. In an interview, Post Malone said “It’s about a girl who broke my heart when I was a teenager”.

The chill trap beats keep Post Malone stand out alone from other SoundCloud rappers. His music has low groove and contains a soft monotone of which we do not get tired of somehow. Let’s go through the lyrics of the song, shall we?

Chorus

Part 1

I think Post Malone is a demanding validation for his love in the chorus part of the Better Now lyrics. He says you’re probably thinking you are better off without me but in reality you want me as much as I want you.

Part 2

You know I never meant to let you down, let you down
Woulda gave you anything, woulda gave you everything

This part of the Chorus feels kind of shady to me. Post Malone says he never meant to let his lover down by his actions. He would have given her anything if she were still his and he was still hers. So, he is basically trying to say, I had loved you when I was a nobody. Now, that I am a somebody, our standards don’t quite match and I cannot stay in touch with you.

Verse 1

The lyrics in the first verse of Better Now tells us that Post Malone is making the case complicated by his own imaginations. Let’s take these lines in a consideration:

Part 1

You’re not even speakin’ to my friends, no
You knew all my uncles and my aunts though

Post Malone is sad because he was too close to his lover. She knew his family and she was close to everybody he loves and admires. Post Malone cannot admit the fact that their relationship wasnt going well, which is why she had to leave him. His denial is haunting him with all these memories of her and their past relationship.

Part 2

We were lookin’ forward to the rest of our lives
Used to keep my picture posted by your bedside
Now it’s in your dresser with the socks you don’t like

Post Malone has become a victim of his own imaginations. His constant desires to know what his lover is up to is making him crazy. Post Malone is reminiscing about the conversation they were used to having with one another.

He knew that his lover used to put his picture by her bedside when they were still in a relationship. But now that they have parted, even though Post Malone is not fully sure about it, he thinks the love of his life has put his picture in her dresser with the stinky socks she doesn’t like.

Verse 2

In the second verse of the lyrics, Post Malone is breaking down over the things that have happened to him.

I was so broken over you
Life it goes on, what can you do?
I just wonder what it’s gonna take

Post Malone says he was broken when his lover left him when both of them were still in love with each other. What bugs me the most is the fact that Post Malone is not able to realise that his lover thought their relationship wad dead when he thought their relationship was growing even stronger.

Now that Post Malone has made a fortune from his music, he points out the things we can do so as to move on from this relationship failure. He is wondering if the moving on part takes expensive shopping or maybe excessive quantity of alcohol.

Analysis

The song feels as if Post Malone is trying to make his ex lover jealous of his success. He is feeding her an idea of what their future could have been if they were still toether. This song shows depressive and needy sides of Post Malone, probably in a good way.

Conclusion:

The Lyrics Review of the song Better Now by Post Malone assumes the targeted audiences to be of age group of 16 to 25. Post Malone is showing a side of a guy who has had a relationship failure when everything seemed alright. As human beings, we all have faced this particular situation at least once in our lifetime.

Personal Take:

I give ‘Better Now’ by Post Malone a light 07/10 in the Lyrics Review category. Dear Post Malone, it is never too late to give something to the person you had once loved.
