Post Malone, Something Real: the Lyrics & Their Meaning

“Something Real” lyrics begin with a chorus where Post Malone wishes for a cigarette for peace and solace from his hectic celebrity lifestyle. He is willing to go as far as the coast of Greece if he can find calmness there. The singer is agitated by his fame and he wants to trade his fame and his wealth for a moment of calmness without buzz around him. He wants “something real” so that he can feel something other than numbness and overwhelming negative emotions, away from the materialistic world.

In the first verse of “Something Real,” Post Malone gets vulnerable and shares the problems he is facing as of late. He is tired of people recognizing him from the car he drives. The singer doesn’t want people to associate him with his materialistic possessions but with his music. Whichever car he drives, he is driving it in a lonely world because he doesn’t feel connected to it. With fame, he has had to cut ties with people who were once close to him, one of the reasons being people expecting favors from him. Despite this, he is surprised by the fact that he is alive and well.

With too much consumption of addictive substances including alcohol, Post Malone shares a story of accidentally throwing up in his Louis V in Pre-Chorus. But he doesn’t regret it because he simply doesn’t care enough to be careful about destroying his extravagant clothes. Instead, he loves it and he would gladly do it all over again. This sounds strange to us. However, Post Malone believes in an afterlife, he won’t have the celebrity status that he has today. He is equal to everyone around him in the afterlife. So, he doesn’t put much value on his VIP status today.

In the second chorus of “Something Real,” Post Malone wants “S” which represents “stacks” (a large sum of money), and “Vs” which refers to “VVS” diamonds. These diamonds are of the highest grade and quality and he contradicts himself by thinking only money and diamonds are real. Then, he talks about burgundy wine and also gives a shoutout to Prada, a luxury brand of his choice.

Post Malone begins the second verse of “Something Real” lyrics by being open about his habits and his addictions. He is addicted to snowmobiles but this adventurous sport isn’t making him happy. Then, he once again indulges in possession of luxury watches so that it feels real to him. He gives a shoutout to a luxury watch brand, Patek Philippe. Post Malone throws millions of his wealth towards extravagant purchases so that he can feel something. But it isn’t working for him.

In the next Pre-Chorus, Post Malone talks about giving free drinks to people to enjoy the party. He stays in line like everybody else without using his VIP pass and he enjoys this. Then, in the final chorus, Post Malone questions what amount of mushrooms can a human being consume without it being lethal. Then, he talks about the consumption of alcohol, indulging in romance, and smoking greens to help him sleep.

Something Real Lyrics

[Chorus]
Give me somethin’ I can feel
Light a cigarette just so I can breathe
Give me somethin’, somethin’ real (Yeah)
Seven hundred feet off the coast of Greece
Give me somethin’ I can feel (Yeah)
No reservation, pull up twenty deep
Give me somethin’, somethin’ real (Yeah)
I would trade it all just to be at peace

[Verse 1]
Stop, it gets too hot, this is overload
It don’t matter what car is sittin’ outside, it’s a lonely road
It’s a double-edgеd sword, cuttin’ off ties with the ones I know
So tеll me, how the f… am I still alive? It’s a miracle, oh

[Pre-Chorus]
(No-o-o) And I can’t believe we threw up here in Louis V
It’s what I need right now
(No-o-o) It’s just my need, at the gates of hell, no VIP
Everybody waits in line

[Chorus]
So give me somethin’ I can feel
Some twenty S and fifty Vs
Give me somethin’, somethin’ real (Yeah)
I was in my B sippin’ burgundy
Give me something I can feel (Yeah)
Prada on my d…, Prada on my sleeves
Give me somethin’, somethin’ real (Yeah)
I could play that p… like it’s “Für Elise”

[Verse 2]
I got real habits, I’m a snowmobile addict
Teal Patek, steel when I feel Patek, ah-ah, ahh
Throw a mil at it, problem, throw a bill at it
Still at it, sign another deal at it (Ah-ah, ahh)

[Pre-Chorus]
And I can’t believe everybody gets to drink for free
So give me one more round (Oh-oh-oh)
No cover fee, any gates of hell, no VIP
Everybody waits in line

[Chorus]
So give me somethin’ I can feel
Light a cigarette just so I can breathe
Give me somethin’, somethin’ real (Yeah)
How much psilocybin can a human eat?
Give me somethin’ I can feel (Yeah)
Whiskey, love and bud just to fall asleep
Give me somethin’, somethin’ real (Yeah)
And it’s what I want, it ain’t what I need
Give me somethin’ I can feel (Yeah, ooh)
Got everything, guess I’m hard to please
Give me somethin’, somethin’ real (Yeah, ooh)
I would trade my life just to be at peace

[Outro]
Give me somethin’ I can feel (Ahh, ooh)
Give me somethin’, somethin’ real
