Tame Impala, a musical project of Kevin Parker, has released a new song titled ‘It Might Be Time’ for their fourth studio album, The Slow Rush. Everything has a time limit. Anything that comes fast usually goes away even faster. It might be unhealthy for us to hold on to something that’s been hurting us. Now, it might be time to let go. Let’s learn the meaning behind the lyrics of the song ‘It Might Be Time’ by Tame Impala.

Tame Impala has been a project for well over a decade now. However, the lyrics on the track are pretty intelligible despite the fact that there are a lot of reverbs on the track. The song is a little washed out. Some of the vocal melodies come off a little clunky because it seems Kevin Parker has a lot to say in ‘It Might Be Time’ to the point where he has sacrificed the melody of the song to sing about how his friends are moving on.

Introduction: It Might Be Time Lyrics

In the lyrics of ‘It Might Be Time’, Tame Impala is faced off with a harsh reality that nothing lasts forever. We are witnessing Kevin Parker essentially stressing over the potential demise of his music career. The singer is letting all the bad vibes to get into him so as to spoil his own attitude. He is struggling with his own emotions and it is vivid in the lyrics of “It Might Be Time”.

The vocal melodies in the song are solid. On top of that, the structure of the song shines through all of this haze. Ultimately, the instrumentals are maintaining melodies and grooves that are head-bobbing, catchy and snappy. Some of the darker elements hanging in the background of the song give either a bittersweet vibe or something that’s scratching the back of Kevin Parker’s head. There is something mentally itching there.

It Might Be Time Lyrics Meaning

Let’s dissect the meaning behind the lyrics of the song ‘It Might Be Time’ by Tame Impala (Kevin Parker).

[Verse 1]

In the first verse, Tame Impala is in a social setting where he doesn’t feel right. He feels as though someone or something is watching over him constantly. The singer wishes to leave the scenario convincing himself that an episode of his anxiety has started. Therefore, he shouldn’t be around his friends for long as he doesn’t wish to embarrass himself in front of them. The singer blames himself and the weather for his bad mood. We’ve all been there, haven’t we?

[Pre-Chorus 1]

There is a voice behind Impala’s head that’s screeching all the time. The anxious head of his is hearing these voices that are saying nothing is permanent. Everything has to end. Nothing lasts forever. The relationship we are in will either break up or it will end after one of us faces death. Regardless, everything is destined to change and we must accept it no matter what. The singer wishes to keep his dream alive for the time being.

[Chorus]

Part I

In the chorus section, the band says this might be the day to realize that nothing lasts forever. This might be the day to face the change in people and mortality. The inner voices inside the head of the singer are convincing him to come to the conclusion that the existence is temporary. Everything is going to fade away, the pain, the misery, everything is fated to end. The better choice would be to wait and watch.

Part II

Does anyone know why we are here and why we are who we are? Why am I not you and you are not me? What distinguishes you from me? How are you and your existence defined? Does anyone have an answer? The time is changing constantly but if we don’t show any interest in the change, we might get stuck in the past. It is nothing new. But this experience will be only temporary. For everything has to end no matter what.

[Verse 2]

Kevin is experiencing Deja Vu. The singer has felt this way before. It is nothing new for him. He has a history of a failed relationship with love and life. The singer has lain to uncountable times. Everyone around him is moving on and growing up way faster than him. This is creating a distortion in his day to day life. He has often coined himself a ‘late bloomer’, which couldn’t be less true.
