[Intro/ Pre-Chorus/ Chorus/ Outro]

We should understand that Gold is the third-best conductor, only behind silver and copper. It was once a very famous option for teeth stuffing that can easily endure from ten to fifteen years. So, to “electrify my golden tooth,” can go with the theory of the electric current reaching his heart faster than the usual. It’s dark but so interesting. Instead, his ‘little buttercup’ continues to hurt him in a sentimental level, but he can’t simply avoid tumbling for her. So, he prefers to take the suffering.

[Verse 1]

This verse could be correlating the vocalist to a rat clasping a switch, that just gets electrical shocks every time he tries to outsmart her, analogous to how he always gets mistreated by her. Nevertheless, unlike the rodent, the musician doesn’t learn to move on at all. He doesn’t restrain from attempting at her heart again, despite the indications that warn him to quit, until he has “pushed it in too far.”

[Verse 2]

The anticipated tale of the song ‘Buttercup’ is that the musician is in love with his ‘buttercup’. However, every time his undertakings in proposing her dies in sentimental suffering. The girl could very easily only be his crush, and she doesn’t accept him for a lover. However, he doesn’t strive to disclose his emotions, mumbling he’ll “do it once in a while” rather than completely working on it.

Allow me to share my view of this lyrics. In my opnion it is so much deeper than described by the article above.

(Forget it, I’ll do it sometime)
Do what? If it is not described, I would take it as the thing that we are here in life to do. The “thing”, that one that nobody knows. The meaning of life.

(I’m locked up on the button)
It shows he is not prepare to do the “thing” at this time.

    (Can’t you do it sometime?)
He things somebody else could do it on his behalf – not possible.

    (Fine, electrify mine, oh
    Electrify my golden tooth)
Golden is a good electricty conductor, but it is not only about that, this metal does not change with the enviroment. That is the reason why we use it for jewelry too; our body does not change electrons with golden atom.
“Electrify my golden tooth” means “Electrify my most real and unchangeable thing (golden)”, he is asking to this person/girl/concious universe puts enegy on it.

    (Can’t look at your eyes
    Without sparking some)
Direct reference to icarus greek mythology – you can google it if you don’t know the story.

    (Electrify my heart)
He asks to the person/girl/concious universe puts enegy in his heart. Heart in philosophy is not the organ but the core of your being. The real thing you are, your true being.

(Yeah, surprise, I’m in the same time
    Beneath the same sun)
Do you remember the beginning of the song? He “would do it sometime”, but as he did not at that time he reencarneted at the same time under the same solar system. Ones needs to do the “thing”, if not you will get stucked at this space/time reality until the end times.

(Oh man, you cut me to size (ow)
    My little buttercup)
He is now not a man, but a flower, a little buttercup and should do the “thing” proper to this manifested form.

i feel that by “forget it i’ll do it sometime” jack wants to disclose his feelings and keep them to a minimum to allow for reciprocity on the side of his “buttercup”. by “can’t you do it sometime” he is requesting her to reciprocate to his feelings for her.
he says he is taken prisoner of the genuinity of his feelings for her when he says that he is locked up on the button but cannot count on his buttercup to reciprocate those feelings but doesn’t know when to stop trying unless he has “pushed it in too far”.
he is electrified because of his unrequited love but he is ready to carry that burden. shows what hopeless romance is. he cant look at her eyes without sparking some because every time he looks at her, he is reminded of his unrequited love and it hurts him.
“surprise i’m in the same time”. even after not getting his feelings reciprocated, jack surprises his buttercup that even after turning him down, his feelings are in the same time at the same place. but he is still hurt and “cut to size”.

This guy’s is friends with this girl
And he want to ask her out but he is waiting for her to ask him
He’s locked on how easy it is to do it but just as hard
Pushed it in to far means he’s over analyzed it
Fine electrify mine means fine just be cute and not know what your doing to me your so sweet no matter what u do even something as hurtful as a raw nerve in the tooth overly shocking as a golden tooth conducting and amplifying that pain. Can’t look at those eyes without sparking that painful nerve. And that pain just like a tooth nerve he feels that in his heart. Surprise I’m in the same time means we are here in the same time as equals beneath the same sun means your not on a higher level so just see me
Oh man you cut me down to size means he’s asked her and she has rejected him but he still has an infatuation with her. ow that hurts
But he will always see her as flawless as a buttercup. A flower. With no faults just because it is what it is

I love this song and the multiple of voices that tell a story thats only painted partially, but with beautiful clarity and colors, kinda like a Bob Dylan song or Nolan asynchronous story mixed with some van gogh painting…even with a golden tooth!

In short the story goes about the struggle the buttercups in the seek of self realization, quite literally to bloom out of the button, the peer pressure of the process as others bloom and the purpose of their very existence.

In Verse 1 there is 2 voices of different flowers. First voice is a button responding to another peer pressure “Cant you do it sometime?”; he goes “wont you come out of my head? forget it ill do it sometime”.

Verse 2 is the relief, surprise! because he realizes his time is his own, he was “beneath the same sun” as others… no need to rush out the button. Verse 2 also introduces a third voice, a man by the buttercups field. “oh man, you cut me to size, ow that hurt” then there is the existential pain.

Pre Chorus goes about the man and his “golden tooth”, the smile it produce to cut and admire the buttercups and how they electrify his heart.

Finally the chorus is all about the purpose, the pain, to get cut but to produce joy to others to electrify the others heart.

Thats my take, just to offer a reading into this beautiful piece of art.
