Post Malone – Goodbyes Lyrics Meaning ft. Young Thug

Today we’re going to be talking about the latest track from none other than Post Malone. The song is titled “Goodbyes” and it features Young Thug. We all hope Post Malone isn’t going to spend his 2019 relatively quiet. This single might only be the beginning for his new album. Let’s find out the meaning behind the lyrics of ‘Goodbyes’ by Post Malone and Young Thug.

Introduction

First of all, the song is very melodramatic, period!

I have both positive and negative things to say about this track, out of which most of them are, however, positive.

The stuff that rubbed me a little in a negative way with the song. I felt like I could acclimate to a bit more with a few listens is the fact that Young Thug feature is a little too eccentric for this track. However, the track is incredibly smooth, both instrumentally and vocally. I’d say this song is one of the slickest productions by Post Malone.

It’s almost to the point where it feels cinematic. It feels like the song would be more appropriate for a movie soundtrack than for an album.

The chord progression at the core of this song bugged me a little bit as well. We’ve heard this specific chord progression at least a million time before. I’d go as far as to say we have heard several different variations of this particular vocal melody multiple times before. It’s a very familiar, tried-and-true progression.

Goodbyes Lyrics Meaning

I like the lyrics of Goodbyes and I think they do have certain meanings hidden within themselves. The lyrics have this bittersweet tone to them. I feel like in this lane of sad white boys incorporating their sad singer’s/ songwriter’s song into an aesthetic that borrows very heavily from the modern trap production.

We’d be lying to ourselves if we say Post Malone is different and he is not following the trap production trend. Post Malone has contributed politically to make this trap trend what it is today.

Honestly, Post Malone is still at the top of the pile of trap music. The meaning of the lyrics of ‘Goodbyes’ is bittersweet. The singers feature the depiction of Post Malone being on the emotional edge in terms of this relationship he has going on in the song and it’s falling apart.

I guess it’s as stereotypical as any breakup songs could possibly be. It is nothing comparable to Better Now. However, the breakup songs of this style are in a valid form. They are still in style. As long as “style” is the framework we’re functioning within to judge this track, I don’t think the song is bad.

In fact, I’d like to say again, I like the tune and melody of the song. I can see the tune and melody themselves taking the song too far. The reason why I like this song is I’ve heard songs that sound a lot like this before that are massively successful.
