“Blue Jeans” is about an ex-boyfriend whom Lana compares to James Dean. The relationship started off well, but soon “the bad boy” up and left. Eventually, he became caught up in chasing money and selling drugs, leaving her in the dust. But all in all, she refuses to let him forget that she will always love him.

Lana cries over her ex-boyfriend. Clearly, she hasn’t been able to move on from her relationship with this “bad boy”. In the chorus of the song, Lana relates to every broken hearts around the world and says even though they aren’t in a relationship, she will always love him. Above all, the song sounds a little toxic, don’t you think?

05. Young and Beautiful

The song ‘Young and Beautiful’ is taken from the soundtrack for the 2013 film version of The Great Gatsby. The Great Gatsby’s main female character, Daisy, portrays narcissistic tendencies, caring for nothing more than herself. Realizing that her worth correlates with her beauty, Daisy doesn’t want a man who will no longer love her after she begins to age and her good looks deteriorate.

The song shows the most insecure side of all the beautiful girls around the world. They are always in confusion if their relationship is based on their faces or their hearts. In the novel, Daisy’s husband is embroiled in an affair with his mistress, and she takes up Gatsby, who reminds her of her youthful past.

04. Video Games

This is where the reign of Lana Del Rey began. Released on October 7, 2011, Lana Del Rey became an overnight sensation over the internet. Video Games is the first single off of Lana Del Rey’s massive commercial success, Born to Die.

The lyrics to this song are about two broken relationships in the singer’s past. “The verse was about the way things were with one person, and the chorus was the way I wished things had really been with another person, who I thought about for a long time,” Del Rey said.

The song ‘Born to Die’ is an opening track of Lana Del Rey’s wildly successful debut album, Born to Die. In [Lana’s] melancholic world, to love is to live, so to love the wrong person is to be “born to die.”

The song ‘Ride’ is from my favorite Lana Del Rey EP, i.e. Paradise EP. Lana asks for zero judgments, as she knows she that she’s had a hard life and she has plenty of scars. Lana wants a companionship in her life. She desperately wants to feel happy from the inside.

Her attempts to put on a front that she is a free spirit is not working. Every time she falls in love with a man. She forces them to feel the emotional void inside of her. Lana needs someone to love, despite the fact, her heart has been broken many times.

01. Love

Love is the best Lana Del Rey song for me because this is the only song where she genuinely expresses happiness. She muses on how this generation’s youth maintain a sense of wonder and empowerment in the face of adversity, due in part to the romanticized idea of love driving them forward.

This alternative/indie rock track also touches upon the concept of loving others, as well as loving oneself. Gone are the self-destructive behaviors involving endless sex, drugs, and alcohol, which would offer her fun and pleasure that lasted until her next dose. While comparing herself to today’s young kids, she is reminiscing her past and the way she has grown up.
